Duch-verdict at the Khmer RougeIt has been three decades since the cruel act of Khmer Rouge took place. After three decades, the wait is finally over as there seems some justice has come into existence for the victims at the Khmer Rouge. The people of Cambodia can now finally breathe a sigh of relief as the trial is scheduled to begin shortly An estimated two million Cambodians lost their lives as a result of the policies of the government of Pol Pot.

The policies included the evacuation of the cities, the people being forced to work at rice fields and the mass execution of the ones who were considered as “enemies of the revolution”. Duch, the verdict is now on the verge of facing a trial at a notorious detention centre. The convict, Comrade Duch, whose real name is Kaing Guek Eav, has been alleged of committing crimes against humanity, torture to people and the murders planned beforehand. Duch, 67, is the former prison chief of the Khmer Rouge and has been convicted of all the crimes mentioned earlier. The joint trial of the other four senior Khmer Rouge leaders is scheduled to begin in 2011.
