Doctor ShianAs per the latest study, consumption of alcohol can reduce the symptoms of rheumatic arthritis but it can also reduce the severity of the painful condition. Two groups of patients were asked by Scientists at University of Sheffield to describe their drinking habits. The findings were that the people who suffered from arthritis and consumed alcohol, experienced less swelling and joint pain.
As per the experts this could be the signal to drink more.

In this study, 1004 who did not suffer from arthritis were compared to 873 patients. The scientists asked both these groups about their frequency of consumption of alcohol in a month. A detailed questionnaire had to be filled by the patients and blood tests and X rays were also done and their joints were also examined by a nurse.

The findings of this study were that the patients who consumed alcohol more regularly had less severe symptoms when compared to those who had it less frequently or did not have it at all. There was less damage to the joints as per the X ray and the blood tests revealed inflammation was less. It was also found that the swelling, joint pain and disability in the patients was less when they had alcohol more frequently.
