As we can see there are 3 days already that sellers at Sovanna Shopping Center are gathering together to stand in front of the center, along 271 St., Tumnup Tirk commune in Chamkar Morn District, without opening their renting shops in order to insist the owner or director of the shopping center to lower their renting fees by 30%.

After 3 days with no result of a good resolution from the owner, all the sellers drove their vehicles or moto taxi to Cambodian Prime Minister’s house in Ta Khmao city in order to get some helps from him.

Most of the sellers said, “if the shopping owner won’t be willing to lower the renting fee by 30% as they insist, they will do whatever they can to win it at the end anyway because no one has enough money to pay the renting fees right now as the sales are dropped unexpectedly.”

One of the seller added, the renting fees at Sovanna Shopping center ranged from 200 to 2,000 dollars US and some places were even more depending on location and size. He also added at the beginning of January 2009, the sellers had already talked with the shopping center owner and finally got 13% off on monthly renting fees but as of today, the sellers were requesting to get the renting fees lower by 30% more.

As of July 3rd, 2009, there is no good result yet, we do not know if the shopping center representative or the owner is willing to solve this matter or not. One of the shopping center staff said, he would like the owner to lower the fees to all the sellers because if the owner didn’t, the sellers might find another places to sell and the shopping center could be closed as well as he would loose his job too.

I guess everyone should understand why! it is a global downturn in economy. Every country is facing problems- not just Cambodia but even the big guy like USA.

We all just hope and pray for a better day to come!
