Turbulence affects flights in a very bad way and this phenomenon has come to light again as the United Airlines flight that took off from Washington to head towards Los Angeles had to divert to Denver International Airport on Tuesday evening.
Atleast 30 passengers were injured on board the aircraft due to severe thunderstorm. One of the passenger Kaoma Bechaz said, “It was a huge up and down movement, the woman sitting next to me slammed her head on the ceiling so hard that it left a crack there above the window, also a girl across the aisle flew into the air and hit the ceiling.”
The flight 967 which was a Boeing 777 with 255 passengers on board had 4 flight crew and 26 passengers reported injured on landing at DIA. The 30 people were immediately shifted to five hospitals across the area and out of them only 1 was reported to be seriously injured.
Later on, the remaining passengers were flown to Los Angeles via another United flight at around 9:30 pm.
The aircraft had a bit interior damage near the overhead bins and the armrests, due to the moderate to severe turbulence; however the exterior of the aircraft was intact.
