Poor Cambodian young girl tried to kill herself by getting on a moto taxi to Chrouy Changva Bridge in attempting to jump down into the Mekong river from the bridge. After police investigated her, she said she had lived with her aunt and served her for so long but never get any money from the aunt.

Although, she tried to kill her by jumping from the bridge, but she couldn’t do it because there were a few Chruoy Changva Protecting Polices caught her before she jumped at 10 am in the morning in May 20th, 2009.

Police added her name is Sum Phorn, 20-year old, birth place in Ba Nuan commune and district, and currently living in her aunt’s house in Srah Chork commune, Doun Penh district.

According to Chrouy Changva Protecting Police said, they saw her walking from the west side of the bridge with a sad and sorrow face. After she had reached the center of the bridge, she looked at the river and freeze a minute, it looked like she didn’t dare to kill herself by jumping down to the deep river. Luckily, the police saw her and came to ask her what is the problem, and finally, she had decided to tell him the truth that she was willing to kill herself by jumping down to the river.

Police continued that the reason making her want to kill herself because she had lived with her aunt for 2 months already and served her day and night, but she never get her salary which her aunt promised to pay her in the amount of 10,000 Riels a month (roughly equal 25 US Dollars).

Sum Phorn added that she had paid the moto taxi 2,000 riels to get her to the bridge, but she couldn’t do it and asked the driver to take her back home, after a few hours later, she hired one more moto taxi to take her to the bridge again, but this time, she still couldn’t jump successfully because the police caught her first.

This is the 13th times of jumping from Chruoy Changva Bridge cases in early 2009 alone which 2 men already been killed by the river.
